Redmond, Technology hub in King County, United States
Redmond is a city about 15 miles east of Seattle in King County, where residential neighborhoods alternate with large technology companies and green spaces. Several bike paths run through the area, connecting residential zones with shopping centers and recreational facilities.
Luke McRedmond and Warren Perrigo settled here in the 1870s and founded a logging settlement that later took its name. The arrival of large technology companies in the 1980s fundamentally changed the character of the place.
Microsoft and Nintendo of America used the available land to build large office complexes that now form the core of local working life. Along the Sammamish River Trail, residents regularly meet for jogging and cycling, with the path connecting several parks together.
Public parks offer walking trails and picnic areas, while the Town Center gathers shops and restaurants in a broadly laid out area. Everything in the center can be reached on foot, while a car is helpful for exploring the more distant parks.
The Sammamish River Trail runs through the entire city and offers a continuous route for cyclists and pedestrians without street crossings. Many employees of the technology companies regularly use this path for commuting or lunch breaks.
