Forks of the Sky State Park, Natural conservation park near Index, United States.
Forks of the Sky State Park is a natural conservation area covering roughly 1,300 acres near Index along Highway 2 and the Skykomish River. The park includes dense forest, multiple day-use areas such as Big Eddy and Raptor Point, and a natural rock wall with climbing routes.
The area started as a local recreation site along the river and evolved into a protected natural space over time. In 2010, the Index Town Wall was incorporated into the park to preserve climbing areas for the future.
The Index Town Wall serves as a gathering spot for climbers who come to practice on natural rock formations throughout the year. People from nearby areas regularly visit to work on their skills and enjoy the outdoor climbing community.
The park has several areas with picnic tables, rest spots, and river access points spread throughout the grounds. Wear sturdy footwear for uneven trails and bring layers, as weather in this region changes quickly.
A test boring machine once intended for the Channel Tunnel project left behind an opening at the rock wall's base. This unusual remnant is a reminder of an ambitious international engineering effort from decades past.
