Château de La Tour-d'Aigues

Château de La Tour-d'Aigues is a Renaissance structure with a large Roman-inspired entrance portal, sturdy towers at each corner, and sophisticated hydraulic systems integrated throughout the grounds. The building combines medieval defensive elements with Renaissance design in its overall composition.

The structure started as a fortified tower in the 11th century and was converted into a Renaissance residence in the 16th century by Jean-Louis-Nicolas Bouliers. This transformation shows how the building shifted from military use to serving as a family home.

The museum inside displays archaeological discoveries and pottery pieces that were found during restoration work on the property. Visitors can see these objects and learn about the area's past through the items on display.

The grounds are easiest to explore when visiting early in the day to avoid crowds. Local markets operate on the property during Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from June through September, adding activity to your visit.

Inside the old keep sits a grand hall called l'aula that shows the blend of medieval fortress architecture with later Renaissance additions. This room reveals how the place was gradually updated over the centuries as tastes and needs changed.
