Base de lancement de V1 du bois des Huit-Rues

This military complex features concrete bunkers, storage buildings, and personnel shelters scattered throughout a wooded area situated between Morbecque and Wallon-Cappel. The structures still display their original function and technical construction clearly today.

Nazi Germany constructed this launch facility in 1943 to fire V1 missiles toward London. Allied forces discovered the site and bombed it before operations could begin.

The site became an official French historical monument in 2007, serving as a place of remembrance where visitors learn about occupation and wartime technology. Local communities use the location for educational tours and commemorative gatherings.

The site remains partially open to visitors through guided tours offered on specific heritage days throughout the year. It is advisable to wear sturdy footwear and check opening dates in advance.

Despite being built as a missile base, this installation never fired a single rocket because Allied forces detected it early. This makes it a rare example of an incomplete World War II military facility frozen in time.
