Puivert

Puivert is a castle in the Aude region that sits on a hill overlooking the surrounding landscape. The building consists of several towers and thick walls typical of medieval fortifications, and inside its rooms hold valuable collections related to music and craftsmanship of that era.

The castle began as a fortress in the region but was conquered and damaged during armed conflicts in the early 13th century. After this destruction, it was rebuilt and then served as an important stronghold in the landscape.

The site sits on elevated ground, so sturdy footwear is recommended when exploring the grounds. The best time to visit is during dry weather, as the steep paths can be slippery when wet.

Inside, there is a special room whose walls are decorated with statues of musicians holding instruments from the Middle Ages. This artistic depiction is rare in France and gives a rare glimpse into the artistic life of the era.
