Parish church of Fürstenfeld, church building in Fürstenfeld, Austria
The Parish church of Fürstenfeld is a church building in the town center, constructed in the late 18th century style. Its interior features fine decorations and details from that period and serves as a regular place for services and community gatherings.
The original church was founded around 1200 by the Knights of St. John and served as a place for prayer and community support. The current building was reconstructed between 1773 and 1779 after the earlier structure was largely destroyed, and it was again heavily damaged by warfare in the 20th century.
The church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and has long served as the spiritual heart of the town. It continues to be used for regular services and local celebrations, keeping a centuries-old tradition alive in the community.
Access is available from May to October on most days from morning until late afternoon. During other months, visitors can view the church from outside through the gates, but a full visit to the interior is not possible.
Antique stained glass windows from a defunct church were brought into the building in 2003 and depict scenes such as The Creation of Nature and The Creation of Man. The onion dome was fully rebuilt in 1988 thanks to private donations to preserve the building's appearance.
