Fürstenfeld

Fürstenfeld is a municipality in eastern Styria situated in a valley that spans across several square kilometers. The settlement displays a mix of older buildings in the center and more modern housing in the outlying areas.

The settlement was founded roughly 850 years ago to protect the border region from raids, and a charter soon confirmed the town's rights and privileges. This early status enabled the place to grow economically and strengthen its defenses.

The town's name reflects the princely rulers who once governed here, and its center still displays medieval structures that mirror how people lived back then. Today, visitors can observe how buildings cluster around the main square where locals and travelers gather.

Several thermal spa centers are located nearby, making the area attractive for visitors interested in hot springs and wellness. Getting around is straightforward, as most destinations are accessible by marked paths or main roads.

Excavations have revealed that people lived in this area since the Stone Age, long before the medieval settlement was established. Findings range from early habitations through Roman traces to local cultures that inhabited the region for millennia.
