Schloss Külml

Schloss Külml is a castle in Anger that sits on a foothill of the Kulm mountain, featuring a two-story structure with a rectangular arcade courtyard and a central roof turret. The building combines practical medieval design with architectural details that reflect its long use over centuries.

The castle originated in the 14th century as a seat of the Stubenberg knights. In 1688, it underwent major renovations under Provost Michael Josef Maister, who gave it new decorative features and furnishings.

The north-eastern corner room displays a stucco ceiling with frescoes painted by Antonio Maderni in 1690, showing a coat of arms of Provost Maister. Such artwork shapes how the interior spaces look today and reveals how wealthy residents once decorated their living quarters.

The castle sits near a hiking trail that begins at the swimming pool in Anger and passes through the Feistritz River area. The location offers convenient access for visitors interested in exploring the landscape surrounding the property.

A former library room contains a stucco ceiling with a central fresco showing the god Apollo with musical instruments, signed A.M.F. and dated to 1690. This artwork reveals that such rooms were designed not just for reading but as richly decorated spaces for thought and learning.
