Gemeentehuis van Zele, Modern town hall in Zele, Belgium.
The Gemeentehuis van Zele is a modern town hall built from brick with an L-shaped layout and slate roof. An octagonal tower marks the building's profile and overlooks the town center.
Built between 1953 and 1957 based on architect Lucien Van Kerckhove's design, the building replaced the previous town hall from 1890. This construction marked the municipality's modernization in the postwar period.
The town hall displays four flags representing Zele, Flanders, Belgium, and the European Union from a prominent balcony above the main stairway. These banners reflect the administrative layers that connect the small municipality to larger institutions.
The town hall sits at Markt 50 and requires appointments for administrative services. The main entrance faces the market square, making it easy to locate.
Next to the town hall, the adjacent Fonteinhof square features three oversized pétanque balls as art installations. These sculptures by Johan Walraevens resulted from a public commission by local government.
