Oxford Slough Waterfowl Production Area, Nature reserve in Oxford, Idaho, US
Oxford Slough Waterfowl Production Area is a nature reserve in Idaho containing multiple wetland habitat types. The reserve features hardstem bulrush marshes, open water zones, saltgrass flats, and native wet meadows distributed across Franklin and Bannock counties.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service acquired this land to protect redhead duck nesting habitat after partial drainage attempts during the 1950s. The reserve was established to reverse wetland loss and restore key habitat for migratory birds.
The production area functions as a research location where scientists study waterfowl populations and conduct environmental monitoring to support conservation methods.
Access comes from Route 91 by turning north toward Swan Lake on Road D1 and continuing to Oxford village. The best way to explore follows the gravel road along the reserve's northern edge.
Water levels in the marsh rise and fall naturally without human control and can completely dry out during drought periods. These ever-changing conditions create a dynamic environment where wildlife adapts to seasonal shifts.
