Elfenaupark, Cultural ensemble in Brunnadern, Switzerland.
Elfenaupark is a green recreation area in the eastern part of Bern, combining open meadows, old trees, and a historic manor house on a single connected property. The grounds run along the Aare River and are listed as a class A Swiss cultural property of national importance.
The site traces back to a women's monastery founded in 1285. In 1816, a Russian Grand Duchess bought the property and had it transformed into a country residence in the English landscape style.
The manor house and the Orangerie café are places where people stop for a coffee while looking out onto the gardens. Locals use the grounds throughout the week for walks, picnics, and rest under old trees.
The park is freely accessible through several entrances from the Elfenau neighborhood. The paths are easy to walk and stay shaded by the tree cover on warmer days.
A section of the park is dedicated to growing rare and old cultivated plant varieties that have nearly disappeared from common use. Visitors can see vegetable and herb plants that have remained largely unchanged for centuries.
