Dam of Montsalvens

The Dam of Montsalvens stands 52 meters high and stretches 110 meters across the valley, creating a reservoir with a capacity of 12.6 million cubic meters.

Construction of the dam was completed in 1921, establishing a vital source of hydroelectric power for the Canton of Fribourg and surrounding regions.

The structure holds Class A Swiss cultural property status, representing early 20th-century engineering achievements in the development of renewable energy infrastructure.

The dam supplies electricity through the Electrobroc power plant near Broc, while the reservoir provides water management capabilities for the Rhine basin system.

Engineer Heinrich Eduard Gruner designed this concrete arch dam, which creates Lac de Montsalvens with its surface area of 0.74 square kilometers.
