Dent de Broc, Mountain summit in Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland
Dent de Broc stands in the Swiss Prealps between the valleys of Sarine and Motélon, forming a distinctive peak in this alpine landscape. The mountain anchors the terrain and rises significantly above the surrounding passes and valleys.
Mountain paths connecting Broc and Gruyères evolved into established hiking routes during the early 20th century. These trails built upon older connections that had linked the alpine communities for much longer.
The mountain rises above the medieval town of Gruyères, where the region's cheese-making traditions remain active in the alpine pastures below. From higher elevations, visitors can see how these grazing lands connect the mountain communities to their food heritage.
The ascent begins from the Motélon valley at Groins d'en Haut, where a narrow path leads toward Col des Combes. The final section to the summit requires basic rock scrambling and demands sure-footedness.
From the summit, hikers can see Lake Gruyère to the north and Dent de Brenleire to the south. This vantage point places the peak between two major landmarks of the region.
