Kesselhaus, Industrial architectural structure in Winterthur, Switzerland
The Kesselhaus is a former power plant in western Winterthur with two prominent metal chimneys and a rounded front facade. The building sits along Zürcherstrasse and has been completely repurposed since its original industrial role.
The structure was built between 1954 and 1957 to supply power to the neighboring Sulzer industrial complex. As industry declined in the region, the building was converted into a cultural venue.
The building now functions as a multiplex cinema with six theaters, hosting 1,046 seats and maintaining its protected industrial heritage features.
The location is accessible on foot from central Winterthur areas via Zürcherstrasse. The site houses bars, restaurants, and event spaces that operate throughout the day and evening.
The protected facade extends along the street front for 800 meters, making it part of Switzerland's national inventory of heritage sites.
