St. Mary of the Assumption Church and School, Religious and educational complex in Park City, United States
St. Mary of the Assumption is a religious and educational complex with rectangular limestone buildings featuring a one-story church topped by a Gothic arch entrance. A two-story school structure is attached to the rear, forming a unified building ensemble on the hillside.
The original structure on this site burned down in 1881 during Fourth of July celebrations. The present building was constructed in 1884 to replace the lost building.
The church remains a gathering place for the local Catholic community, hosting regular services and community events. Visitors can observe how the space serves as a spiritual center for neighborhood residents.
The complex sits on elevated ground above street level and can be reached via steps on the hillside. A stone retaining wall marks the front, helping visitors orient themselves when approaching from below.
This building holds the distinction of being the oldest surviving Catholic church in Utah and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. This recognition reflects the site's importance to the early Catholic history of the region.
