Blodgett Canyon

Blodgett Canyon is a deep gorge in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness featuring steep granite cliffs and a winding creek below. Dense conifer forest covers the surrounding slopes and valley floor.

The canyon formed millions of years ago through tectonic activity and erosion, creating exposed granite layers that reveal the region's geological story. Its structure reflects major shifts in the Earth's crust over time.

The Salish tribes valued this valley for seasonal hunting and gathering. Their presence shaped the land's role in local traditions and stories.

You can reach it by hiking from Hamilton, with the main trail leading past a waterfall and taking several hours to complete. Bring plenty of water and sturdy footwear for the rocky terrain.

Rock climbers are drawn to the granite walls here, which feature over 40 established climbing routes of varying difficulty. This makes it a destination for climbers of all skill levels.
