Revelstoke, Mountain resort city in British Columbia, Canada
Revelstoke is a city in British Columbia nestled between the Selkirk and Monashee mountain ranges along the Columbia River. Mount Begbie rises to the south, reaching an elevation of 2770 meters above sea level.
Railway construction brought the first permanent settlers in the early 1880s when the transcontinental line pushed through the Selkirk range. The settlement grew as a service point for trains crossing the mountain pass.
Visitors today walk through a downtown shaped by railway history, with heritage buildings lining the main streets. The community gathers for outdoor festivals and events that reflect mountain life throughout the year.
Heavy snowfall from December through March draws skiers and boarders to the local mountain resort. Downtown streets remain walkable year-round, with shops and eateries concentrated along a few main blocks.
A nearby weather station once recorded over 24 meters (80 feet) of snow in a single winter season during the early 1970s. Railway enthusiasts come to see historic locomotives preserved at the local museum dating back to the transcontinental construction era.
