High River, Rural town in southern Alberta, Canada
High River sits along the Highwood River banks, about 68 kilometers south of Calgary where Highways 2 and 23 meet. The town spans both sides of the river and serves as a trading center for the surrounding rural region.
The Blackfoot First Nation originally inhabited this area, calling it Ispitzee, before European settlers established a permanent community in 1870. The arrival of the railway in following decades made the town a major transportation hub.
