Torrey Peak, Wyoming

Torrey Peak rises to an elevation of 12,181 feet with granite formations and steep cliffs surrounded by alpine meadows and mountain lakes.

The mountain, part of Shoshone National Forest, has recorded climbing activities since the early expeditions of the United States Geological Survey mapping projects.

Native American tribes of the region utilized the Wind River Range mountains as seasonal hunting grounds and considered them sacred territorial markers.

Climbers need advanced mountaineering skills and proper equipment to navigate the class 4 terrain sections leading to the summit of Torrey Peak.

The peak maintains a significant isolation distance of 2.38 miles from other summits and connects to six major drainage systems including the Mississippi River.
