Alberta Legislature Building, Parliament building in Edmonton, Canada

The Alberta Legislature Building features a central dome, symmetrical design, and extensive porticoes constructed with Vancouver Island granite and Glenbow Quarry sandstone.

Construction of this provincial legislature commenced in 1907 under architects Allan Merrick Jeffers and Richard Blakey, reaching completion in 1913 at a cost of 2 million dollars.

The legislative chambers contain intricate decorations, artwork, and materials including imported marble, mahogany, oak, and brass that reflect Alberta's governmental heritage.

Free guided tours of the legislature building operate throughout the week, with access available through the Government Centre transit station.

The building's floodlights create an optical phenomenon where looking at them and then at surrounding areas produces a purple coloring effect in viewers' vision.
