Dilmun Burial Mounds

Dilmun Burial Mounds is an archaeological site containing over 11,000 circular and oval mounds spread across the western region in multiple burial fields. The chambers beneath the mounds are built underground, with some featuring multiple levels and cylindrical stone construction.

These mounds were built between 2050 and 1750 BCE, marking the rise of early Dilmun as a major trading power. The burials span a period when this region controlled essential trade routes connecting distant civilizations.

The size and placement of the burial mounds reflect the social ranks of those buried within. Objects from distant lands found in the chambers show that this place was a hub where merchants and travelers from across the region connected.
