Memorial Chorten, Stupa in Bhutan
The Memorial Chorten, also known as the Thimphu Chorten, is a stupa located in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Built in 1974 to honor the third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, it is one of the most visible religious structures in Bhutan.
The chorten is a focus of daily worship for many Bhutanese and is an important gathering place during special religious events.
Visitors are welcome to join locals in walking around the chorten, a practice believed to bring merit and good luck.
Unlike other stupas, it does not enshrine human remains but instead represents the mind of the Buddha.
