The Pietà is a work of Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti, housed in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City.
It was completed in 1499 when Michelangelo was only 24 years old.
The Pietà is one of the most famous works of art, depicting the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion.
The sculpture is located inside St. Peter's Basilica to the right of the entrance.
It is the only piece Michelangelo ever signed.
