Oak of Bad Blumau, Natural monument in Bad Blumau, Austria.
Oak of Bad Blumau is a giant tree with a trunk measuring about 2.5 meters across and a crown that spreads broadly. The tree displays the characteristics of a mighty forest giant that has grown over many centuries.
A lightning strike in the 1970s damaged the tree, after which the trunk was filled with concrete to protect it. This repair measure inadvertently caused drainage problems that affected the tree's internal health.
Local residents call this ancient oak "dicke Oachn" and the area beneath it has long served as a gathering spot for the community. The space under its branches remains a meaningful meeting place today.
This oak is accessible via the Bad Blumau circular hiking trail 3 or the FF8 bicycle path, both of which are well-maintained. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for uneven terrain.
The trunk is so thick that several people linking arms are needed to completely encircle it. This demonstrates the extraordinary size of the tree compared to most forest trees.
