Hochfilzen

Hochfilzen is an alpine village nestled in the Pillersee Valley, surrounded by rocky mountain peaks on all sides. The settlement sits on sloping pastures and combines traditional farm buildings with modern sports facilities.

The railway arrived in 1875 and completely changed the place's purpose and development. What followed was its transformation into a military training ground and eventually a center for competitive biathlon.

The Church of Our Lady of the Snows stands in the center with its white Baroque tower, shaping how the village looks and how people move through the town. The building serves as a gathering point and remains central to local life.

Walking trails branch out from the village in many directions, with routes suited to different abilities and interests. You can easily reach neighboring valleys and explore the wider region on foot.

The place has built specialized facilities for biathlon athletes, featuring shooting ranges and running tracks designed for this demanding sport. This has made it a training hub where international athletes come regularly to prepare for competitions.
