Schloss Ort

Schloss Ort is a castle sitting on a small island in Lake Traunsee, linked to shore by a wooden bridge. The building displays Renaissance features and now houses a research and training center operated by the federal government.

A knight named Hartneid von Ort built the original structure around 1080 on the island. Over the following centuries, the site was expanded and rebuilt several times, gradually taking on its current appearance.

The castle bears the name of its original owners and is valued locally as a symbol of the region's heritage. Visitors come to experience both its setting and the way it represents noble life from earlier centuries.

The castle is easily reached by crossing the bridge on foot from the lakeshore. The setting offers pleasant walking paths around the grounds and clear views across the water to the surrounding area.

A popular German and Austrian television series was filmed here from 1996 to 2004, bringing the castle widespread attention throughout the region. The production made it a recognizable destination for those interested in filming locations and screen history.
