Schloss Ort is a castle sitting on a small island in Lake Traunsee, linked to shore by a wooden bridge. The building displays Renaissance features and now houses a research and training center operated by the federal government.

A knight named Hartneid von Ort built the original structure around 1080 on the island. Over the following centuries, the site was expanded and rebuilt several times, gradually taking on its current appearance.

The name Ort comes from the medieval lords of Ort, who held the fortress from the 10th century until 1244, when the last knight was imprisoned. Since 1996 the lake castle has served as the exterior of the television series Schlosshotel Orth, which made it familiar to viewers in Austria and Germany.

The lake castle is reached on foot over the covered wooden bridge from the Gmunden shore; the land castle stands at the bridge's landward end. The island courtyard is entered through a green arched double door at the tower base. Three of the original four prison cells and the Hunger Tower can be visited inside.

A popular German and Austrian television series was filmed here from 1996 to 2004, bringing the castle widespread attention throughout the region. The production made it a recognizable destination for those interested in filming locations and screen history.
