Berndorf, municipality in Baden District, Lower Austria, Austria
Berndorf is a town in the Baden district of Lower Austria situated along the Triesting river at about 1,030 feet (314 meters) above sea level. The townscape shows a mix of old industrial buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries, well-kept streets, and green parks scattered throughout the settlement.
The area was first mentioned in 1133 as Perindorf and had been settled since Stone Age times. From the 18th century, metal-working businesses developed, especially after a cutlery factory was founded in 1844, which grew into the region's largest employer under Arthur Krupp.
The name Berndorf comes from a man named Pero who settled here around 1070. The town keeps this connection to its past alive through local festivals and theater events that bring visitors and residents together to celebrate traditions.
The town is easily reached by train and car, located along a main road connecting it to larger cities. Parking is easy to find, and the town center with its square, shops, and cafes is clearly laid out.
The Krupp family shaped Berndorf deeply by not only building a factory but also constructing entire residential neighborhoods for workers and donating a school, swimming pool, and St. Margaret's Church. These buildings are still visible today as signs of this industrial past.
