Alte Universität

The Alte Universität is a historic building complex in Vienna's city center with architectural features spanning multiple periods. Its facade displays gothic and classical details with carved decorations, while a spacious inner courtyard sits at its heart.

The University of Vienna was founded in this building in 1365 and used it as its primary home for many centuries. The institution eventually moved to a new location in the late 19th century, leaving behind this landmark of educational history.

The building contains the Main Ceremonial Chamber and 28 lecture halls that accommodate academic conferences, international gatherings, and educational functions throughout the year.

The complex is easy to reach and sits near Schottentor station, which offers several transportation options throughout the neighborhood. It makes sense to use public transit or explore the building on foot, as the area is quite walkable.
