Plansee

Plansee is an alpine lake in Reutte District nestled between forested mountain ranges with clear turquoise water and significant depth. The shoreline features wooded banks with several swimming areas that provide direct access to the water.

The lake appears in written records from the late 11th century as part of a territorial boundary description. This early mention shows how important water resources were to the region's administration and livelihood.

Fishing shaped how people in this region lived for centuries, providing food and work for local families. You can still see this heritage reflected in the way the lake is used and the traditional practices that continue along its shores.

Swimming areas are located on the northeastern shore with sunbathing lawns and changing facilities for visitors. Parking is limited during peak season, so visiting on quieter weekdays makes for a more relaxed experience.

A canal about 300 meters long connects this lake to the nearby Heiterwang lake at higher elevation. This man-made link creates a rare network of connected waters that opens up unusual opportunities for boating and water activities.
