Herz-Jesu-Kirche

Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a brick parish church built in the Gothic Revival style located in Graz. The structure features a prominent tower on one side, flanked by secondary spaces, and includes a lower church level with its own altar for additional worship functions.

Architect Georg von Hauberrisser designed this church, with construction beginning in 1881 and finishing in 1887. The building was consecrated in 1891, marking the completion of this major project for the growing city.

The interior stained glass windows depict religious scenes and filter light into the main space, shaping how worshippers and visitors experience the building. This collection of windows is central to how the church presents its spiritual message to those who enter.

Enter through the main doors to access the upper church where regular services take place. Visitors can also explore the lower church level, which functions as a separate chapel space.

Local residents funded the entire construction through donations, revealing how deeply the community supported this project. This grassroots financial backing was unusual for such a large church building at that time.
