Wildschönau

Wildschönau is a municipality in the Kufstein District comprising four villages positioned along a broad Alpine valley. The settlement spreads across meadows and forested slopes, with farm buildings scattered throughout the landscape and mountains rising on both sides.

The area first appeared in written records during the 12th century when monastic institutions and local rulers controlled the land. From then on, it evolved as a center of mountain farming and crafts, shaping its character over the following centuries.

The valley has deep roots in Alpine farming, with meadows and mountain pastures shaping how locals have lived here for generations. You see cattle grazing across wide grasslands and farmhouses that blend naturally with the landscape, reflecting a way of life tied to the seasons.

The area is most accessible during summer months when hiking trails are clear and well-maintained, while winter transforms the region for skiing and snow sports. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear since the terrain is hilly and paths change with the season.

The valley is often overlooked because it is marketed together with the nearby Alpbachtal as a single ski region, even though it maintains its own distinct identity. Most visitors learn only later that they have been exploring two different parts that complement each other on the slopes.
