Landsee castle ruins, Medieval castle ruins in Markt Sankt Martin, Austria

The castle ruins spread across an area of 300 by 200 meters, featuring four rings of fortifications and walls reaching ten meters in thickness.

First documented in 1158 in the Göttweig Monastery records, the castle changed ownership between Austria and Hungary due to its strategic border position.

The site includes remnants of the first parish church of Landsee village, dedicated to St Nicholas, alongside a Baroque chapel built between 1650 and 1679.

The ruins welcome visitors from April through October, with guided tours requiring a minimum of ten participants at a cost of 5.50 euros per person.

The castle served as a filming location for Disney's 1993 production of The Three Musketeers, featuring actors Kiefer Sutherland and Chris O'Donnell.
