Hohe Munde, Limestone summit in Tyrol, Austria.
Hohe Munde is a limestone summit in the Mieming Range in Tyrol, rising between the Wettersteingebirge and the Inn valley. With its two distinct peaks and a height of about 2,662 meters, it presents a characteristic profile in the mountain landscape.
The mountain formed during the Triassic period and consists of Wetterstein limestone, a rock that reflects the geological history of the Alps. In 2014, substantial avalanche protection structures were built on the eastern slopes to safeguard the village of Sagl from winter hazards.
The mountain served as a filming location for the television series Tatort, shaping the regional landscape through its distinctive twin peaks. For hikers in the area, it stands as a familiar sight on the horizon and a natural landmark for orientation.
The ascent begins from the Munde Lift parking area and follows trail number 8 to Rauthhütte, where the path becomes steeper. The terrain is rocky at the top, so sturdy footwear and sure-footedness are important for the upper section of the route.
The mountain has two peaks of different heights, with the eastern summit called Mundekopf reaching about 2,592 meters and being slightly lower. This twin-peak structure makes the mountain easily recognizable and defines the silhouette of the entire region.
