Synagoge, Graz, Jewish synagogue in Gries district, Graz, Austria.
Synagogue Graz is a modern building in the Gries district distinguished by a glass dome structure and traditional interior spaces. The walls incorporate original bricks salvaged from the previous structure to honor its past.
The original building was destroyed in 1938 during Kristallnacht, a devastating blow to the community. The current structure was rebuilt and opened in 2000 following unanimous approval from the municipal council.
The synagogue serves as a gathering place for the Jewish community across three regions and anchors religious practice in daily life. People come here for worship and to mark important occasions together.
The building stands on David Herzog Square near the Mur River, making it easy to locate. Visitors can attend prayer services or arrange a guided visit in advance.
Local school students participated in cleaning bricks from the destroyed building that were later integrated into the new walls. This project connected young people directly to the site's reconstruction.
