Museum der Wahrnehmung, Interactive perception museum in Graz, Austria
Museum der Wahrnehmung is a location with interactive exhibitions focused on human sensory perception in Graz. Visitors find experimental installations exploring visual illusions, sound perception, touch sensations, and spatial understanding.
The building dates to 1905 as an octagonal public bathhouse. After major renovation in 1996, it was transformed into this museum presenting exhibitions on perception.
The space brings together art and science in visible ways, with installations showing how eyes, ears, and skin perceive reality differently from one another. Visitors test their own senses and discover that what we experience is always filtered through our bodies.
The exhibition spans multiple floors, with some areas of the historic building offering limited wheelchair access. The rooms follow no strict route, letting visitors choose which installations to explore at their own pace.
In the basement sits a saltwater bath experienced in complete darkness, continuing the building's original purpose as a bathing facility. This Samadhi bath provides a sensory experience unlike the other exhibitions.
