Großer Sulzberg, Mountain summit in Mostviertel region, Austria.
Großer Sulzberg rises to 1,400 meters and is the highest peak in the Türnitz Alps in Lower Austria. The mountain consists of extensive forests with a partly open ridge that allows hikers to pass through different elevations.
The mountain ridge has long served as the boundary between Sankt Aegyd am Neuwalde and Annaberg municipalities. This natural division continues to define administrative borders in the region.
Local hunters use a network of paths across the mountain, preserving traditional access routes through the forested slopes.
The most direct route to the summit starts from Fadental and follows forest roads and hunting paths for about two hours of hiking. Good footwear and navigation skills are needed since many trails are unmarked.
The partly tree-free ridge offers clear views across Schneeberg and Göller extending toward the Gesäuse mountains. These open sections make the summit a popular spot for long-distance viewing.
