Kalkalpen National Park

The national park encompasses 20,825 hectares of limestone mountains, natural forests, mountain streams, and diverse alpine pastures in the Northern Limestone Alps.

The establishment of Kalkalpen National Park in 1997 marked a commitment to protect Austria's last extensive forest wilderness and natural stream systems.

The Villa Sonnwend, constructed in 1907, functions as the national park's lodge and seminar center, hosting educational programs about environmental conservation.

Three visitor centers in Molln, Ennstal, and Hengstpaßhütte provide information, maps, and guided tours through the park's extensive network of trails.

The national park contains 800 natural springs, 200 kilometers of streams, and 1,500 butterfly species, representing the largest concentration in Austria.
