Burg Grub, Medieval castle ruin in Irnfritz-Messern, Austria.
The fortress stands on a hilltop at 467 meters elevation, featuring remnants of a tower, palace walls, and a reconstructed chapel.
The castle, constructed in the 11th century, served as a stronghold for the Counts of Poigen until Duke Albrecht III besieged it in 1373.
The structure represents architectural developments of Lower Austria, with elements preserved from its medieval construction period without later modifications.
Visitors can view the exterior of the castle ruins at Grub 13, with a designated parking area providing access to the site.
Franz Josef Hampapa purchased the ruins in 1970 for 45,000 Schillings to prevent demolition and initiated preservation efforts with technical guidance.
