Schloss Wildberg

Schloss Wildberg is a medieval fortified structure in Irnfritz-Messern built atop a rocky elevation. The complex features two distinct courtyards and a four-story residential tower with substantial stone walls throughout.

The structure was first mentioned in 1135 when Pilgrim de Wiltperch held it, establishing the beginning of its noble lineage. Over the following centuries, it remained under the control of various aristocratic families of the area.

During the 16th century, the residence served as a printing hub for Protestant materials across the region. Visitors can sense how this role shaped its standing among local communities at that time.

The structure remains privately owned today, so visiting the interior requires advance notice. The local tourism office in Irnfritz-Messern can help arrange such visits ahead of time.

The round defensive tower reaches approximately 27 meters high with walls of exceptional thickness. These substantial proportions make it one of the most formidable defensive installations in Lower Austria.
