Baumkronenweg Kopfing, Treetop adventure park in Kopfing im Innkreis, Austria
Baumkronenweg Kopfing is a raised wooden walkway that passes through the forest canopy near Kopfing im Innkreis in Upper Austria, reaching up to about 50 feet (15 meters) above the ground at its highest points. The path winds between the trees on a series of platforms and ramps that allow visitors to move through the canopy at different heights.
The walkway opened in the early 2000s as one of the first of its kind in Austria, at a time when treetop paths were still a new concept for the country. It helped bring this type of nature experience to the Innviertel region, which had not seen anything quite like it before.
The walkway sits near the point where Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic meet, giving the spot a rare geographic position. On a clear day, visitors standing on the upper sections can look out over all three countries at once.
The walkway is accessible without stairs thanks to ramps, which makes it manageable for strollers and visitors with limited mobility, though sturdy shoes are still a good idea since the wooden surfaces can get slippery when wet. Weekday visits tend to be quieter than weekends, when families often come in larger numbers.
At certain points along the route, there are tree houses where visitors can actually spend the night, sleeping in the forest canopy rather than just passing through it. From these structures, it is said to be possible to see into both Germany and the Czech Republic on a clear day.
