Brandlhof, historical farm house
The Brandlhof is a museum housed in a historic farm building in Radlbrunn near Ziersdorf that shows how rural life developed in the region. The property contains a main residence, storage buildings, and outbuildings arranged around a three-sided courtyard that visitors can explore.
The Brandlhof was first recorded in 1209 as property of Lilienfeld Abbey and served as a working farm under a local manager. It suffered damage during 17th century wars and underwent several rebuildings before the community of Ziersdorf purchased and restored it between 2002 and 2005.
The Brandlhof serves as a gathering place for local celebrations and traditional performances that keep regional customs alive. Folk music and festivals held here connect the community to their heritage and way of life.
The property requires advance booking to view the interior, while the courtyard and tavern open on weekends and holidays from 10 in the morning until 6 in the evening. Visitors should allow time to explore the surrounding countryside on foot or by bike, as trails pass through fields and connect nearby villages.
The buildings show traditional regional construction methods using clay bricks mixed with straw, finished with lime plaster and linseed oil that protected the walls from weather. These handcrafted details offer rare insight into local building techniques that have largely disappeared from the landscape.
