Bretterspitze, Mountain summit in Tyrol, Austria
Bretterspitze is a mountain summit in Tyrol that reaches 2608 meters and belongs to the Hornbach chain within the Allgau Alps. The slopes display steep rock faces made of dolomite that define the character of this massif.
The mountain became more accessible with the creation of the Enzensberger Way, which connects the Hermann von Barth Hut with the Kaufbeurer Haus. This route shaped mountaineering traditions in the Hornbach region.
The summit register records climbers who reach this peak, reflecting a long tradition of Alpine mountaineering in the area. These entries connect generations of people drawn to explore the Hornbach chain.
Two main routes reach the summit: a northern path from Hinterhornbach and a southern trail from Häselgehr, both marked as route 434. Visitors should expect both paths to be demanding and to require sure-footedness.
The northeast ridge requires technical climbing abilities, with fixed steel ropes securing the exposed rock sections. These fixed ropes help climbers navigate the steepest passages safely.
