BORG Innsbruck, Secondary school and cultural property in Innsbruck, Austria
BORG Innsbruck occupies a three-story Neo-Renaissance building with an E-shaped floor plan, characterized by rustication, corner risers, and continuous cornices. Inside, two monumental marble staircases connect the floors and create an impressive spatial sequence.
The school was founded in 1766 as a teacher training institution and moved to its current location in 1877. Decades later, it underwent several name changes before becoming BORG Innsbruck in 1976.
Wall paintings by Max Spielmann in the school foyer show children reading, writing, and playing, giving the daily school life an artistic character. These artworks reflect how education and creativity are valued within the building's spaces.
Visitors can view the entrance foyer with its artistic wall paintings and explore the staircase architecture. The best time to visit is outside school hours to observe the interior spaces without disruption.
The event hall features an impressive coffered ceiling and four arched windows that stand out from typical classroom spaces. The ground floor corridors display barrel and cross vaulting that reflects the building's architectural heritage.
