Taxispalais – Kunsthalle Tirol

Taxispalais is an art gallery housed in a former government building in central Innsbruck, showcasing contemporary works across approximately 500 square meters. The spaces feature minimalist design with generous natural light to place full focus on the displayed pieces.

The building originally served as a tax administration center and was repurposed as an art gallery in the 1960s, marking a shift in its role. A comprehensive renovation in the late 1990s modernized the spaces and gave them new importance.

The gallery takes its name from the historical palace and presents works that often question power structures and social roles. Visitors can discover art forms that weave together local and global perspectives.

The building is located in the city center and is easily reached on foot, with clear signage visible from outside. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time for a leisurely tour through the exhibitions.

The gallery hosted an important exhibition that first introduced a major German artist to an Austrian audience. This show marked a turning point in how contemporary art was received in the country.
