Neues Landhaus, Government building in Innsbruck, Austria
The Neues Landhaus is the main administrative building for Tirol province, dominating the cityscape with its substantial facade and heraldic symbols. Constructed between 1938 and 1939, it now serves as the central location for various regional government offices.
The building was erected in 1938-1939 as the administrative seat for Reichsgau Tirol-Vorarlberg under Nazi rule. After 1945, French military authorities took over the structure before it eventually became the center for Tirol's regional government.
The building contains displays about administrative work during the Nazi period in its former official rooms. Visitors can observe how institutions operated during that time through the exhibition materials.
The building sits centrally on Eduard-Wallnöfer-Platz and is surrounded by a pedestrian-friendly environment with modern additions. Be aware that portions function as active government offices and may have restricted access for visitors.
In 2005, Landhaus 2 was added as a modern extension that complemented the traditional administrative complex with contemporary design. The redesigned plaza between the structures now provides a vehicle-free public space that transformed the entire area.
