Schwimmschule Steyr is a riverside outdoor pool complex in the Wehrgraben district, built around a large sports pool and a children's pool with a slide. Sunbathing terraces, a gallery and a buffet building along the Steyr river complete the grounds, while the renovated wooden cabin wing recalls the site's 19th-century origins.

The facility was established in 1874 and was originally created to serve workers from a nearby industrial works. Over time it evolved into a broader recreational destination for the local community.

The place serves as a gathering spot for families and local swimmers throughout the season. You can see how the community uses it as a place to learn, play, and spend time together across age groups.

The pool lies in the Wehrgraben district, a short walk from Steyr's centre, and the Steyr river runs directly past the buffet terrace. The sports pool and children's pool with slide are separate, and the sunbathing terraces and gallery sit above the changing cabins. The site was rebuilt in stages after the 2002 flood, so parts date from 2002 to 2013.

In 1999 the city sold the loss-making pool to the Friends of the Schwimmschule association for one Austrian schilling; founder Hermann Leithenmayr led it until his death in 2010. Lifeguard Franz Kaiser, swimming master for over 40 years, opposed plans to convert it into a natural bathing pond, preferring to keep the cold water and traditional character.
