Schloss Wolfsegg, Renaissance château in Wolfsegg am Hausruck, Austria.
Schloss Wolfsegg is a Renaissance castle sitting on a hilltop above Wolfsegg am Hausruck. Two double-story wings extend from the main structure and frame an internal courtyard between them.
The castle appears in records first in 1120 under Hadmar I von Hausruck and changed hands several times over the centuries. The Saint-Julien-Wallsee family took ownership in 1835 and shaped its later development.
The chapel here dates to 1746 and honors Saint Anna with barrel vaults and ornate stucco decorations inside. An altar painting by Bartolomeo Altomonte adds to the space's character.
Today the castle hosts events like celebrations and conferences and is reached via steep paths from the town center. Visitors should expect longer walks and some climbing to reach the entrance.
Austrian writer Thomas Bernhard mentioned the castle in his works, notably in his final novel 'Auslöschung'. This connection makes it an important location in Austrian literary history.
