Posthof, Cultural center in Linz, Austria.
Posthof is a cultural center in Linz, housed in a listed building near the Danube harbor, with several performance stages and exhibition areas spread across former warehouse halls. The complex sits directly on the waterfront and combines indoor and outdoor event spaces within its converted industrial structure.
The building was constructed in the late 19th century as a postal freight depot at Linz harbor, serving as a hub for goods moving along the Danube. It was converted into a cultural venue in 1984, and additional spaces were added over the following years as the program grew.
Posthof is known for presenting contemporary theater, music, and dance, often mixing local artists with international productions. The outdoor area near the harbor is used for events in warmer months, giving the venue a more open and social feel.
The venue sits right on the harbor and can be reached on foot from central Linz or by public transport. Arriving a little early is helpful, as the grounds are spread across several buildings and it takes a moment to find your way around.
Parts of the original postal infrastructure, including loading ramps and rail tracks, are still visible between the event spaces on the grounds. These remnants give the site an industrial character that sets it apart from more conventional cultural venues.
