Frauenstein Castle

Frauenstein is a castle with three round towers at its corners and a square bay window on the southeastern side. The structure combines defensive architecture with comfortable living spaces designed for noble families.

The castle was first mentioned in documents in 1195 when it belonged to regional noble families. Over the centuries it was rebuilt and enlarged several times to meet the changing needs of its residents.

The chapel inside dates from the 16th century and shows craftsmanship in its vaulted ceilings and decorated walls. These religious spaces reflect how faith shaped the daily life of those who lived here.

The grounds are best explored on foot, with marked paths around the outside of the castle. Visitors should bring appropriate clothing as the area can be windier and cooler, especially in the higher seasons.

A hunting room in the castle displays impressive wall murals and an elaborate ceiling from the 18th century. These rooms offer insight into the leisure and hunting habits of the noble residents.
