The Einsatzzentrale Basisraum is an underground control center beneath Heukareck mountain with five levels situated approximately 300 meters below the surface. The facility contains workstations for about 250 personnel and employs radar data from three Austrian stations to monitor air traffic movements.
The facility was built in the late 1970s as a response to potential threats from the Eastern Bloc. Its deep underground location was designed to provide protection against military attack and ensure continuity of critical operations.
